Watch MTN Access to Art Episode Thirteen--March 2008

Hosted by local artist Tom Cassidy at the Minneapolis Central Library's Altered Books Exhibit.

Segment One: In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre connects to its community and audience with flour, water, newspaper, and ideas. Their latest mainstage production, "Beneath the Surface," is the second part of a trilogy about water. Access to Art correspondent John Akre visited the theater at their Lake Street home to get a backstage look at this "Circus of Wonderments." Also--at the Altered Books Exhibit, Access to Art Host Tom Cassidy talks with Melinda Ludwiczak, the libraryy's Partnerships Coordinator for Arts and Business.

Segment Two: For six years sculptor Aldo Moroni has been building, destroying and rebuilding Babylon in his Northeast studio. This next segment features the unveiling of the last incarnation of the cradle of civilization featuring the Tower of Babel and Aldo himself. Access to Art Correspondent Laura Stopyro spoke with Aldo and some of his supporters and visited a recent event related to the project. Also--at the Altered Books Exhibit, Access to Art Host Tom Cassidy talks with Dr. Betty Bright, the Altered Books Exhibit curator.

Segment Three: The Workhaus Collective, a theater company run by playwrights, is still in its infancy, but has already made a huge splash in the Minneapolis theater scene. The 14-member collective was created to give playwrights more say over how their plays are produced. Access to Art correspondent Laura Stopyro attended their sold out show, "God Save Gertrude" and spoke with several members of the collective.
Also--at the Altered Books Exhibit, Access to Art Host Tom Cassidy talks with Jennifer Hibbard, a Minnesota artist.

Segment Four: The Museum of Russian Art is the only non-profit museum in North America dedicated to the display and preservation of 19th and 20th Century Russian Art. The museum works with other museums and collectors in the United States and Russia to provide interesting and educational rotating exhibits showcasing the diversity of Russian art. Access to Art correspondent Hamil Griffin-Cassidy visited the museum and toured their current exhibits, which run through April 26.
