Minneapolis Neighborhood News is a program produced by the Minneapolis Neighborhood Revitalization Program through the Minneapolis Television Network.

Each episode features reports about the work of Minneapolis neighborhoods in the NRP.

Minneapolis Neighborhood News can be seen on cable in the city of Minneapolis on MTN 16 on Sundays at 5 p.m., on MTN 17 on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. and on City Cable 14 on Sundays at 4:30 p.m., Mondays at 5:30 p.m., and Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m.

"Safety" is the subject of this episode. We go on a walk with the Steven Square Block Patrol, which has been building community while preserving neighborhood safety for fifteeen years. We also visit the Franklin Safety Center in the Ventura Village Neighborhood, and find about how they have improved safety with the Courtwatch program. We also visit the Phillips Clean Sweep, a community building event organized by the Weed and Seed program.

In this episode, you will tour several community gardens that used NRP resources or build community in many ways. These gardens were part of the Parade of Community Gardens organized by GardenWorks. The second segment is a visit to 3310 Nicollet, a new building on a major transit corridor that features affordable housing through the NRP and the City of Lakes Community Land Trust.

This is an all-arts episode that features an extended segment on the transformation of the Ritz Theater into a new home for the Ballet of the Dolls dance company. This rehabilitation of a long-abandonned theater was made possible in part through the NRP contributions of the Sheridan and Holland Neighborhoods. The show also features a segment on the Northside Arts Collective's Spring Art Party, an event that builds community through the arts.

In this episode we visit four of the homes featured on this year's Minneapolis St. Paul Home Tour. All of these homes used NRP resources to fix them up or construct them. The show also includes a segment on a series of forums that Third Ward City Council Member Diane Hofstede held using the NRP model to develop an agenda for the ward. It ends on a segment about the Annual Meeting of the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association.

This episode starts out with a look at the Bill and Bonnie Daniels Firefighters Hall and Museum. This Museum was established with help from the Holland Neighborhood, which contributed NRP funds for a facade for the building. The second segment looks at Plaza Verde at Lake and Bloomington Ave. This development was re-dedicated to honor Mexican President Benito Juarez. The final segment looks at a Town Meeting in the Longfellow Community in which residents gave input on a development proposed for along the Hiawatha Line.

Minneapolis Neighborhood News #86
First, we visit three homes featured in the Minneapolis Saint Paul Home Tour, which is organized by the Minneapolis NRP. The second segment is about the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ripley Gardens housing project in the Harrison Neighborhood. This project is converting a historic maternity hospital into housing. The final segment looks at the Kingfield Neighborhood Fall Festival. Some highlights of the festival were a neighborhood fundraiser and a design survey.

In this episode, visit a recently rehabilitated home in North Minneapolis that was returned to the family that owned it years ago. Also visit a Hmong Cultural Fair put on by a collaboration between three neighborhood associations and the Southeast Asian Community Council. Then drop by the newly rehabilitated Franklin Community Library and the terrific celebration that welcomed the community back into this beautiful space.

This show features two segments on community building activities and a segment on a housing project. In the McKinley Neighborhood, a NRP youth program develops a community garden that is dedicated to peace in the memory of Sheila Wellstone. In East Phillips, the Franklin Station homes open. They are affordable housing made affordable through NRP resources, and also through proximity to transit. And the Phillips West Neighborhood gets together for their 8th Annual Winter Social, a community festival that has turned into a tradition.

This program is titled, "Environment," and looks at several environment-related NRP projects. Included are segments on native planting projects along the Mississippi River in the Longfellow Community, and along Ryan Lake in the Victory Neighborhood of North Minneapolis. The program also looks at the Rain Garden Program in the Fulton neighborhood, and at a multi-neighborhood effort to change the air over Minneapolis by convincing Excel Energy to convert the Riverside power plant's fuel from coal to natural gas.
